A running fan does not tell you whether a KitchenAid hood exhausts outdoors or filters air back into the kitchen. KitchenAid distinguishes the washable grease filter from the charcoal filter used in a recirculating installation. Cleaning one does not replace the job of the other; its charcoal recirculating filter is not washable. With the hood off and cool, follow your model's instructions for routine filter care.
